Magic Johnson would’ve been the perfect pornstar name change my mind.
It feels like the Cubbies, even while currently holding the top spot in their division, are playing uninspired baseball. This aging (old-as-fuck) team that Theo has had held together for so long are 4-6 in their last 10, which includes dropping 2 of 3 to the Rockies and 2 of 4 to the Mets.
Jon Lester has also been playing on brand, tossing with the fortitude of an AARP member. Over his last 4 starts, he’s posted a 5.32 ERA, a 1.3 WHIP, and an OPS against approaching .900. The Cubs are 3-1 in those games, but it’s no thanks to the 7 dingers he’s allowed.
It’ll be tough for Lester to get back on track against this youthful, exuberant, non-viagra needing Braves team. The Braves are riding a streak where they’ve won 7 of their last 10 and 16 of their last 20, scoring a shit-ton of runs in the process. They have a team OPS over .900 during their last 20 games, leading the 2nd-place Indians by almost 100 full points. In other words, they’ve been tea-bagging the rest of the league offensively. And it shows in their 6.5-game advantage in their division.
I also firmly believe Julio Teheran will hold his own in this matchup. He’s thrown 21 innings in his last 4 starts with an ERA of 3-flat, a WHIP of 1.28, and an OPS against below .700. That even includes his very last outing where he gave up 6 runs on 8 hits over 4 innings against the Mets.
I expect a bounceback performance from Teheran here. And I think we all expect Ronald McDonald Jr. and the Braves offense to continue knocking dingers and scoring runs. Put those two together and I think even Einstein would predict a convincing win, Dogs or not.
The Cleveland Indians have won 8 out of their last 10 games, including their last 3 straight. Sadly, they are still a solid 8 games back in their division race. Howeva (Stephan A. Smith voice), they’re only 2 back of that coveted top wildcard spot (currently owned by Tampa Bay), and their bats are starting to really heat up.
Over the last 7 days, the I-words have the 4th-best team OPS in the Majors (.859). In the month of June, the I-words have the 2nd-best team OPS in the Majors (.820). During this recent 10-game stretch, the I-words are averaging 6.6 runs/game.
The Kansas City Royals have won 5 of their last 10 games. They sit 23.5 games back of their division, with little hope of snagging either of those wildcard spots. Additionally, their bats have been very below average in recent weeks.
They do have the 15th-best team OPS during the last 7 days (.764), but the 3rd-worst team OPS during the entire month of June (.666 Y I K E S). They are averaging just under 5 runs/game in their last 10 games.
The starting pitching matchup is more or less even. Here are the stats from the two’s L5 starts:
- KC’s Brad Keller: 32 IP, 4.5 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, .710 OPS against, and the Royals are 0-5 in those games.
- CLE’s Adam Plutko: 27 IP, 4.5 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, .839 OPS against, and the Indians are 4-1 in those games.
However, when these two starters have played out their roles, Plutko’s supporting cast has been outperforming Keller’s all Summer long. Hoping that the Indians bats and bullpen outperforms their adversaries today, and they pick up another crucial W in this series’ home-opener.
I’ll keep this last pick short n’ sweet:
CC Sabathia is old and fat and he stinks. I think BJ’s will get to them early considering they just put up a 4-spot on Chris fucking Sale like 2 days ago.
Aaron Sanchez has given up 4, 5, 8, and 7 ER in his last 4 starts, compiling a total 18.2 innings pitched which, after some quicc maths, adds up to an 11-flat ERA. He’s also posted a 2.22 WHIP in those 4 starts as well.
The Yankees are going to be good again now that they are healthy. They’ve scored 56 runs in their last 10 games, winning 8 of them. The Yankees are a good baseball team.
I think that the full game over, at 11, is too juiced for me. I also think the Yanks ML and RL are too juiced for me given CC. I finally think the Yanks TT is too high at 6.5.
These pitchers are bad, and these offenses can score. I think I found a line right here that is worth ripping. Tail or Fade at your own risk.
On Today’s Date: Happy Birthday Lionel Messi! Soccer is a stupid sport and they should get rid of the goalies and make the goals twice as big so everyone can score a bunch more, but this small Argentinian fuck makes it work.
